Delores Dogan

Written by Courtney Shaughnessy of Ingleside, Illinois, Delores Dogan is a young woman's coming-of-age story as she documents it in her diary while lying on her bed at three times in her life: in eighth grade, as a senior in high school, and as a senior in college. Told in a frank and hilarious fashion, Delores confronts issues that all young women face: adolescence, body image, peer pressure, and dating. From these trials and tribulations, Delores learns to accept herself, fights back, and triumphs!

Says Chris Jones of The Chicago Tribune, "Delores Dogan" is "[p]lenty of fun, truth and genuine heart...Shaughnessy is a name to watch”.

“Delores Dogan”

Meet Delores Dogan.  She's straight from suburban Illinois circa 1986).  She's awkward, she's anxious, she's every woman... well, almost.  Full of terrible first kisses, split Dairy Queen pants, and dates gone wrong, TIMEOUT CHICAGO calls this one-woman show "the chance to revisit the most awkward moments of youth."

“THE PINK CHAPTER”: EIGHTH GRADE

Ugh...Those Awkward Years
Act I: We see an empty room, the room of Delores Dogan.  There are boxes that have been packed: one is pink, one is red, and the other is purple.  Delores is wearing a wedding veil and a bathrobe: it is the day of her wedding.  She takes a moment of reflection.  She moves to the pink box and opens it.  She finds her journal from 8th grade on the top of the box and begins reading.  Delores is back in 8th grade, writing in her journal about “becoming a woman,“ first kisses...and her sister.  Read some "Pink" dialogue!
“THE RED CHAPTER”: SENIOR YEAR HIGH SCHOOL

The Dairy Queen Emerges
Act II: Delores begins to remove the pink items from the room.  Taking them down and throwing them into the pink box.  There are some things that she tries to get rid of, like her teddy bear, but she can't bring herself to do it.  Now a senior in high school, she works at Dairy Queen, tries out for the pom squad, and joins a “creative club” – whatever that is!  Read some "Red" dialogue!
“THE PURPLE CHAPTER”: SENIOR YEAR OF COLLEGE

Finally?
Act III: Delores springs into action. She goes to the "red" box and begins packing up the red things in the room. She then opens the "purple" box. She pulls out a wedding dress and attempts to pull it over her head. You’ll have to wait to see the play to find out what happens next!  Read some "Purple" dialogue!
